Lesson 1. Florida's Waterway Importance

Lesson 2. South Florida Marine Ecosystem

Lesson 3. Florida's Fishing Industry and Eco Tourism Impacts
Course Description
Water Flow Importance Gulf of Mexico
Influences Florida’s weather, especially hurricane formation. Warm currents contribute to Florida’s subtropical climate. Coastal wetlands act as buffers against storm surges.
Atlantic Ocean
Gulf Stream affects global and local climate. Drives ocean currents that influence weather and marine life. Coastal erosion and rising sea levels are major concerns.
Everglades
Acts as a slow-moving river flowing from Lake Okeechobee to Florida Bay. Natural filtration system for pollutants. Vital for maintaining South Florida’s water supply.
Biscayne Aquifer
Supplies drinking water to over 8 million people. Recharge comes from rainfall and surface water. Vulnerable to saltwater intrusion due to overuse and sea level rise.
